Palmerston has a long history with the Vale of Rhe

Palmerston has a long history with the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Not only a visit ten years ago but periods of hire in the 1920s.

After a period on display in the new museum it will go into VoR works for the ten year overhaul. It will then haul some trains and star in the August gala before returning to home metals in time for our Bygones Weekend.

WHAT'S IN STEAM THIS WEEK..?( 20th - 26th April )This is going to be a complicated update this week - due to the running of 'The Snowdonian' special and associated extra workings - so...Over the coming week we will have SEVEN steam locos working scheduled passenger trains on the F&WHR... On the Ffestiniog Railway: 'James Spooner' and 'David Lloyd George' will again be working out of Porthmadog - with 'Lyd' or 'Linda' in charge of trains starting from Blaenau Ffestiniog. Services on the Welsh Highland Railway will be covered by all three available NG/G16s - Nos. 87, 130 and 143:• No.87 will start the week working from Porthmadog.• No.143 will start the week working from Caernarfon.• On Wednesday the two locos will swap trains at Beddgelert and finish at the other end of the railway.• On Thursday No.130 will work from Caernarfon, while No.143 works from Porthmadog...In addition to the regular service trains, there will be a number of extra workings this coming weekend - including, of course, the 'Snowdonian' special. There will be a variety of double and triple headed haulage ensuring a very busy time for our loco crews. FIVE further locos will also be in action over the weekend - 'Blanche', 'Merddin Emrys', 'Lilla' and visiting locos 'Chuquitanta' and 'Lily' from the Richmond Light Railway.Finally - there's also a diesel-hauled train, with 'Moelwyn' working an NLHF special on Friday.So, that brings us to a grand total of TWELVE steam locos and ONE diesel running on timetabled or private services this week.
