Longing for @ffestiniogwelshhighland trains! There wouldn’t have been any trains running this time of year anyway I don’t think. There would at February half term but thanks to Covid restrictions and lockdowns I don’t see it happening this year. Booooooooo!!

Posted @withregram • @rebeccakitchin ‘Welsh Pony at Sheepfold’ - original watercolour, ink, acrylic and coloured pencil painting on 300lb rough textured Fabriano watercolour paper. I wanted to create something magical in this painting - this little engine, who throughout the ‘season’ of 2020 helped save the Railway by running the ‘Covid’ service from Porthmadog to Tan y Bwlch with the vintage carriages and bug boxes, where passengers would be separated in their own compartments. The original is offered for sale (I do have several interested parties) for £380 unframed and includes P&P to UK - with a £50 donation to the Linda fund. It is a large painting at 35cm x 52cm approx and can be professionally framed - collection only. I am hopeful to get ten limited edition double mounted and wrapped prints made at £75 each (including P&P to UK only at the moment due to Brexit 🙄) Please PM if you’re interested in a print 🙂 Please like and share 🥰 Diolch yn fawr ~ thank you ☺️

Elgate Products are officially licensed producers and suppliers of Transport for London face masks and coverings. These are non-medical, civil use only masks and face covers and not to be used as a replacement for personal protective equipment (PPE) or a replacement for other recommended measures and guidelines put in place to combat the spread of infectious diseases.

These reusable face masks and covers are designed to help catch and trap potentially harmful particles and bacteria. Washing and care instructions are included on the packaging and on the sew in labels of each mask.

For added filtration, certain masks either include or have the capacity to fit PM2.5 replaceable filters. The PM of PM2.5 means 'particulate matter' and refers to the tiny airborne hazards the filter is protecting against. The 2.5 relates to the size of particles this filter offers protection against, which in this instance is 2.5 microns - put into perspective, this is half the size of a red blood cell or nearly 30 times smaller than the diameter of the average human hair. These filters therefore help protect against some bacteria, combustion, dust and pollen particles.

••• Reusable Mask with Filters: These double layered face mask come packed with two PM2.5 replaceable filters offering a further third layer of protection against harmful particles. The mask consists of a soft, comfortable and fully breathable cotton inner layer and a vibrant colour printed polyester fabric outer layer. This is finished with a neat piped edging and elasticated ear loops for a tight and secure fit around the face.

••• Foldable Face Mask: Perfect for when you are out and about, this handy mask folds up neatly into a square zip-up pouch which comes with both a split ring attachment for keys and a lobster clip to allow this to be attached to bags. The mask itself is a double layered face mask consisting of a cotton inner layer and a vibrant colour printed polyester fabric outer layer. This is finished with a neat piped edging and elasticated ear loops for a tight and secure fit around the face. There is also space within the mask to accommodate a replaceable filter should you wish for that extra layer of protection.

••• Multifunctional Headwear: Made from single layered stretchy 100% polyester microfiber. This fully breathable fabric headwear offers a tight but comfortable fit. Readers of 'Steam Railway' magazine are being asked to vote for one of ten nominees that have been put forward for the coveted 'Steam Railway' magazine award, to be presented at the Heritage Railway Association's awards ceremony in February 2021.

"The award is presented in recognition of the magnificent and tireless efforts of the preservation movement during the last 12 months. This is about celebrating the finest achievements in a year that has tested our industry like never before."

The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways have been nominated for "the restoration of unique surviving 'Large England 0-4-0STT No.5 WELSH PONY and its innovative post-lockdown trains."

As another year draws to a close, it's time to bring out the traditional 'turning of the year' photograph. So much has happened over the decade since the original photo was taken, but nothing can compare to what has taken place over the past twelve months.

2020 started with expectations of a busy year, celebrating among other things the '150th anniversary of the Fairlie Locomotive Trials'. Little did we realise the trials we would actually experience within a few short weeks. Suffice to say plans were made, changed, abandoned and resurrected as we made valiant efforts to keep up with a constantly changing situation. We introduced new journey options, different catering arrangements and working practices to provide a day-out for as many as possible within the guidelines. Sadly though, despite our efforts, we end the year with no trains running on the F&WHR - and little prospect of trains running again until later in the Spring of 2021...

However, rest assured, trains will return - in all probability along similar lines to those we were able to run during the summer. We're busy ensuring locos and carriages are in good condition, maintaining our track and infrastructure etc so that we'll be 'ready-to-run' as soon as we are able to do so.

So, let's put 2020 behind us and look forward to brighter things in 2021. We're looking forward to the time when we can welcome passengers back to North Wales. Till then, may we wish you and yours all the very best for the coming year - take care and stay safe...
