STEAMPIPES – SILENT FILM / CONCERT  supporting the historic narrow-gauge railways of Wales took place again last year on 28th November at 2.30pm and 7.00pm. We raised over £1000 each for the Ffestiniog, Talyllyn and Welshpool & Llanfair narrow-gauge railways.

This event has been going for many years in the evening with a few breaks and has again found a new venue with the Musical Museum at Kew.  This has the extra advantage of a real Wurlitzer rising from below with Len Rawle accompanying the silent films.

It featured rare and classic archive films from the golden age of steam railways,  introduced by compere Rob Foxon. We enjoyed newly discovered footage being screened for the first time, including railways on the Isle of Wight in the 1930s, a day in the life of an engine driver (Nine Elms locomotive depot) in 1949, Welsh narrow-gauge railways and much more. ​ Screened as the original film-makers intended; using real film projected on the big screen!

The matinee proved particularly popular and was sold out weeks ahead.  We shall be providing another show like this on 26 November 2020, afternoon and evening. Keep your eye out for booking when it opens.
