A Taster Day for Potential Track Inspectors

The class of 2019 by Alex Spring

Following an appeal in both Society Magazines earlier this year for trainee track inspectors, 12 new recruits attended a taster day on 6th July to learn more about what track inspection involves.

Pictured here at Tan Y Bwlch gathered around the mess coach 1111. The day started with a safety briefing in Minffordd Yard and a general discussion about our track maintenance regime.

We then visited Rhiw Goch and, with the train locked into the loop, we walked up towards Cei Mawr to start the familiarisation process of walking on the track.

Once the service trains had passed we continued up to Tan Y Bwlch. We undertook two further short track walks and discussed the problem we have with the pressed steel base plates cracking.  Between them, the group then identified five cracked baseplates before heading back to Minffordd.

The next stage of the process will be for the trainees now to start building route and track knowledge by spending time with the current team of inspectors. 00

We are always looking to additional members to join the team and if you think you maybe interested please contact alex spring at aspring@ffwhr.com
