Competition Time for all you Artists….
Call for Artists of all Disciplines – Welsh Highland Railway Poster Design Competition
This summer the Welsh Highland Railway (part of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway Company) is celebrating twenty one years of reinstatement plus the opening of a new multi-million pound station in Caernarfon incorporating a booking office, shop, Cafe De Winton and an event space.
To mark the occasion the railway are offering the opportunity for selected artists to be exhibited in the new station complex. The renowned artist Bedwyr Williams is ‘Strategic Artist’ in the Caernarfon Waterfront Regeneration Group and has been in conversations about this competition with the railway.
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway Company (FFWHR) are looking for works based on the Welsh Highland Railway that express either ‘Views from the train’ or ‘Train from a location’, these can follow the traditional route of a railway poster or a modern take on those themes.
Works submitted can be in any media and any style with the following criteria – The selected work will be used to produce A2 posters that will incorporate a banner strip across the bottom that includes the railway logo and contact details. Your work does need to suit a portrait layout but can be reproduced from a high resolution photograph, it does not need to be produced to A2 size. We ask that photos of your work (up to three entries per artist) are emailed to gardd21@talktalk.net in jpeg format no larger than 1mb with dimensions, title and medium and artist’s name. The closing date for entries is Friday 27th July, successful artists will be notified as soon as possible after this date. We appreciate that there is only a short period of time before the deadline and apologise for this but please enter if you are able!
From the files received twenty submissions will be selected for the exhibition. Three works will be chosen as the ‘Judges Trio’, these will be announced at the preview. In addition visitors during the exhibition will be asked to choose their favourite entry to be announced at the end of the exhibition. Each of the four winners will receive £200.00 in addition the FFWHR will reproduce a limited run of some the posters over the following year for retail through their shops and stations, 25% of each sale will be forwarded to the relevant artist.
The exhibition will run from Saturday 15th September to the end of October (date tbc).
Exciting days ahead!
