A Unique Little Church, St Tanwg’s at Llandanwg
I had the pleasure of being taken to St Tanwg’s Church for a Christmas Carol Service last week and for those looking to go to Church on Christmas day, this is certainly worth a visit.
The church is reputed to have been founded in the fifth century by St. Tanwg and can be said to be one of the oldest Christian foundations in Britain. I am told that each of these churches along the coast had a different sounding bell so that mariners would know where they were. It has been restored beautifully and I along with many others, including Mike Sharratt, a fellow volunteer in the Carriage Works, who kindly sent me the photos.
The Christmas Day service is at 10:30 am , and if you come, wear warm clothes and warm footwear, and a cushion would be useful to sit on cold seats… There is no electricity or heating, and the lighting is by candles but the welcome is first class.
There is car parking and a short walk to the beach can be enjoyed after the service to get the juices flowing ready for Christmas Dinner.
