VOLUNTEERS KEEP THE F&WHR ON TRACK...

We wouldn't be able to run our trains without the support of our loyal band of volunteers. Everywhere you look around the railway, you will see people who have chosen to come and work with us during their spare time or holidays - and we are forever grateful for their dedication...

They come from all walks of life, from all around the world, to do an enormous number of tasks - some in the public eye, some behind the scenes - all of which ensure the F&WHR can provide our visitors with a quality experience, on and off the trains.

Engine Drivers, Firemen, Guards, Signalmen, Tour Guides, Station Hosts, Gardeners, Handymen, Skilled Craftsmen - the list goes on and on. Each brings their own special talents and personalities with them. Some come to teach others, many come to learn, but all are welcome - and, once work is done for the day, it's great to socialise together as one big family..!

So, in recognition of #NationalVolunteersWeek, we'd like to say a hearty "Thank You !" to all our volunteers for their efforts over the years - from the early preservationists back in the 1950s, through to the present day...

CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION OF THE INTERPRETATION A

CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION OF THE INTERPRETATION AND BOSTON LODGE WORKS PROJECT…
On Thursday, 1st of May 2025, we celebrated the completion of a momentous £5m project, thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).
The celebrations primarily took place at our Boston Lodge Engineering works, with our staff and volunteers, along with representatives from the Heritage Fund team and leaders from the heritage and tourism industries along with media outlets, all coming together to mark the completion of the project.
During the day, there were opportunities for visitors to take a tour around the site, admiring the restoration work that has taken place during the course of the project. There were also opportunities to speak with staff and volunteers about their role in the project and the numerous benefits it has brought to the railway and a special ceremony with speeches regarding the work that has taken place.
This was a fitting end to what has been a phenomenal team effort, made possible by the unwavering dedication of our staff and volunteers, support from local communities and the incredible support and funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The results of these efforts are now clear for all to see and enjoy for many years to come.

The build up to our highly anticipated ‘RAILWAY 200’: FR PLATINUM JUBILEE WEEKEND feat. ‘200 Wheels on the Cob’ (20th – 22nd of June 2025) continues with an update from our Operations Manager; Matt Ellis..!

In the video below, Matt provides details on the Special Optional Extras that are available during the event… these are limited in numbers, so they’ll be sold to rover ticket holders only, on a first come, first served basis.

⚠️ SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
◻️ SATURDAY 12th APRIL

Due to the unseasonably dry weather conditions and various hillside fires in the region, we have made the decision to amend our planned train services tomorrow...

The following changes will apply:

🔴 The 'Quarryman' service from Blaenau Ffestiniog has been cancelled.
🟡 The 'Mountain Spirit' will run as a 'Woodland Wanderer' service to Tan-y-Bwlch.
🟢 The 'Woodland Wanderer', 'The Harbourmaster' and the 'Snowdonia Star' services will be running as scheduled.

ALL TRAINS WILL BE DIESEL HAULED...

The Booking Office staff are in the process of contacting all pre-booked customers with relevant information and processing refunds as appropriate.

We will provide updates on further developments or alterations to our planned services as soon as possible...

🟢 FR PLATINUM JUBILEE WEEKEND:⚪️ FREE 'PARK & RIDE' SERVICE..!We are pleased to once again have an agreement with CPD Porthmadog to use the car park at the football ground for a 'Park & Ride' service for visitors to the 'Platinum Jubilee' event - and we encourage as many as possible to take advantage of this service.Polite Request: Please park on the hard-standing - not on the training pitch itself..!The football ground is clearly sign-posted off the Porthmadog Bypass - Post Code LL49 9PP or what3words ///kilowatt.duck.couchA frequent bus service will run every 30 minutes* on a clockwise loop - stopping at Minffordd Station, Boston Lodge Halt, Harbour Station and TfW's Cambrian Coast station. There will be a great variety of trains and haulage to ride in and enjoy over the weekend, but limited opportunity to run non-passenger stock. ✳️As a result there will only be one run of the Gravity train during the 'FR70' weekend.
