FRS White Rose Group Programme 2018-2019

From the Chairman and Working Party Organiser
After several happy years meeting at the Oxford Place Methodist Centre in Leeds, we are on the move as the building is to be redeveloped as a hotel. Still in Leeds, from September we will be meeting in the Pullman Room at the Cosmopolitan Hotel on Lower Briggate, a slightly shorter walk from the railway station, so I’m told!

Unfortunately, room hire charges will be higher than the Methodist Centre which means that the suggested meeting donation will have to rise to £5 in an effort to cover our cost and still leave funds to donate to the Ffestiniog Railway. A minimum of 11 members present will cover our cost. The committee have put together a programme of speakers which I trust will be informative and stimulating.

Working parties have seen a small but stable (until recently) group of us, and work on the track often means replacing baseplates between rail and sleeper with new cast ones which are less prone to failure. In June, during the heatwave, we spent time  greasing fishplates and restoring the ballast shoulder on a couple of curves where movement in the heat had occurred.

The track work is varied and in a beautiful part of the Snowdonian National Park so I finish with the usual plea that if you would like to swell our numbers, the contact details remain unchanged, Joe Tarver 01274 551012, mobile 07745 726307 or via  jtarver@ffwhr.com  or, David Colenutt (01422 883391) david.colenutt@btinternet.com
