What you can miss when you are sat on a train
Spending a day with the Drains Gang was an interesting experience, seeing what they are responsible for,
But… when we were walking parts of the track and arrived at Rhiw Goch, I had time to read the plaque and Peter Jorden gave me an insight into pre steam days.

Looking at the display as a whole, was really interesting how they laid the track for the horses to pull the waggons.

As we walked sections of track you could find these stones. I am told that the rail fasteners were fixed into the holes using molten lead.

This photograph shows clearly the same system was used for fixing the fences along the tops of the walls.

Fence long gone but the lead lingers on….

Think this needs a bit of TLC – a new project for me? Maybe PW can rescue it next time they are out!
