John Maxey

It is with immense sadness that I have to report the passing of John Maxey. John was a long time servant of our company who gave his heart and soul to ‘his railway’. His unstinting efforts are an example to us all and he made many friends along the way.

John had been ill for some time but was determined to keep doing as much as he could, often working away in the workshop behind his house doing bits and pieces that would keep his colleagues in the S&T team on top of the job when he couldn’t be there in person.

John, born on the 26th of March 1952 left us on midsummers day, 21st of June 2022, aged just 70.

I am sure you will all want to join with me in sending our condolences to Leona and Jay, John’s wife and son who are also very much part of the Ffestiniog family.

John’s funeral will be at Bangor Crematorium on Friday the 15th of July at 1.30pm.

This will be followed at 3.30pm, by a train service from Porthmadog Harbour Station to Tan y bwlch where refreshments will be served.

Family members, close friends and work colleagues are invited to join Leona and Jay on John’s train.

We would be most grateful if those wishing to join the train would email Kaz Spring to let us know so we can cater accordingly – kspring@ffwhr.com

It is planned that a memorial service will take place in the Spring of 2023, possibly around the time of the FRS AGM, so that the wider Ffestiniog family have an opportunity to remember John and celebrate his life.

Leona and Jay ask for family flowers and donations to prostate cancer research. The web-site for donations can be found here.
